Smart Capital

The best artisan manufacturers under one roof

House of Manus is underpinned by a deep conviction that artisan manufacturing still has relevance. That’s why we’re investing our own capital in its long-term development and growth, in businesses that are rooted in tradition yet looking to the future – and, above all, in products that are crafted by hand.

At House of Manus Equity, artisan manufacturers and outstanding craft businesses are in good hands. House of Manus Equity brings together a wide range of firms producing exquisite objects for a discerning lifestyle, supporting their long-term development via capital investment, far-sighted guidance and access to our global ecosystem. With their peerless quality standards and high degree of specialization, these companies are making products you won’t find anywhere else.

House of Manus Equity is committed to investing over the long term and staying the course. With our integrated development strategy, we help traditional artisan businesses to better exploit their brands’ potential and to enjoy market success. We can demonstrate that trades which previously seemed at risk of dying out do, in fact, still have a place in tomorrow’s world, and can even help drive future trends. That’s why we’re convinced our investment in them is not just financially worthwhile but culturally beneficial too.

“With a father who is a fabulous craftsman, I was raised with the fundamental belief that it is only when you personally work with a material with your hands, that you come to understand its true nature, its characteristics, its attributes, and I think – very importantly – its potential.”

Jonathan Ive

Intelligent investment plus integrated approach

Unlike conventional buyout investors, House of Manus isn’t just interested in short-term returns – we don’t just focus on operational improvements but aim to transform and develop brands and their sales processes via an integrated approach. We invest in established SMEs from the home and living sector that offer untapped growth potential – and the potential to become globally relevant brands of interest to a discerning, luxury-focused clientele.

House of Manus Equity considers individual crafts and craft businesses in the round, taking into account any critical dependencies in their respective supply chains. One of the biggest challenges for artisan manufacturers today is procuring raw materials and intermediate goods that meet their high standards of quality. The fashion industry has long been aware of this phenomenon, and large fashion houses such as Chanel and Hermès began the process of backwards integration years ago. In some cases, individual suppliers can be just as critical to an artisan manufacturer’s continued survival as its own production processes. In addition, many suppliers are themselves highly artisanal and committed to the same principles as the brands they supply. In our origination process, we take these complex connections into account, thus ensuring artisan manufacturers don’t fall victim to procurement problems. In addition, firms supplying high-quality products to artisan brands are themselves of interest to House of Manus Equity.
